It's just insulting IMO because...#1 - This was a major address and Fox is one of the big four. They are now a significant player in TV and TV news with Fox News (if it was MyTV, or CW, or Ion...who cares). All of the country needed to watch that address and try and understand what is going on...may you be for or against the program, the country needs to pay attention to this. To offer some idiots dancing for other idiots to judge in place of something important is insulting. Fox locals use MY and your public airwaves to broadcast their crap and in return need to give a public service, providing the President an hour of primetime.

#2 - Fox tried to mandate the stations to go with "Dance" over the Prez because it was "Dance" premiere night and they wanted to hook viewers. So, Fox took the monetary approach instead of providing the public service that they should have.

In their defense, it was on every other OTA channel and a good number of cable/satellite channels. By not requiring affiliates show the address, they offered an alternative to those who might not wish to watch the address (this is especially true for those who only get their TV through OTA).

If you wanted to watch the address, you could. It was exactly the same on every channel it aired on. The only differences were the graphics and commentary before and after. I would hardly call this "insulting" anyone. Now, say, if Bill O'Reilly came on and said something along the lines of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dht7pZhuItI, now that is insulting.
