Sports Director Chip Carter to depart WTVT…

WTVT sports director Chip Carter announced today that he will be leaving the Tampa station after 28 years. His last day will be February 26th.

He made the announcement during the 5p.m. newscast (video below) and via personal video on Facebook (video below).

Carter said: “I wish I could thank each and every one of you for inviting not only me but FOX 13 into your homes.  We take it as a privilege it is something we feel needs to be earned; it is never expected. I’m going to miss everybody here.”

Carter, is only the third sports director in the station’s 66 year history (following Andy Hardy and Salty Sol Fleischman before him). He joined the station in 1988.

So who will replace Carter, WTVT made sure not to announce that. Stay tuned for further information.

A big thank you to the Bay Area…I am retiring from Fox 13.
