WCWJ to be sold, yet another duopoly for JAX…

In a press release from Graham Holdings Company, the media company has reached an agreement with Nexstar Broadcasting Group and Media General to acquire Jacksonville CW affiliate, WCWJ and WSLS in Roanoke, VA.

So how does this impact the Jacksonville market? Independent WJXT is currently owned by Graham Holdings. The acquisition of WCWJ by Graham will create the third duopoly i that market (WTLV/WJXX by TEGNA and WJAX/WFOX by Cox Media). Look for WJXT to expand its news footprint in the market, with the newly acquired signal and viewers from WCWJ.

The deal is subject to approvel by the FCC and the finalization of closing terms will be for $60 million in cash and the assumption of liabilities.
