(edited from Gainesville.com) – Diversified Communications, the parent company of WCJB-TV20, announced Thursday that it’s selling the station to broadcast giant Gray Television Inc.
WCJB and WABI-TV, a family-owned station in Bangor, Maine, are being bought for $85 million, and the sale is expected to be final in eight to 12 weeks, pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission.
Gray owns or operates 100 TV stations across 54 TV markets, including Florida stations WCTV – Tallahassee and WJHG/WECP – Panama City.
“We don’t make any changes when buying a TV station. We don’t put our sign out front, we don’t change the way the phone is answered, we don’t change the logo or the brand,” Kevin Latek, Gray executive VP said. “What attracts us to stations like WCJB is that they’re doing everything fantastically already without our resources behind them.”
WCJB will have opportunities to use Gray’s resources, such as a Washington, D.C. news bureau, digital media and company-owned programming. However, the decision to use them will remain at the local level, Latek said….Cont….
