New is the word at WPMI…

Viewers in Pensacola tell Florida News Center that Mobile’s WPMI NBC 15 debuted a new logo (left) yesterday, a new Chief Meteorologist, new website and a new philosophy for working with viewers. Derek Beasley (right) joins WPMI as Chief Meteorologist from mornings at?Cincinnati’s WLWT. (Watch Beasley in action here). Beasley fills the void left by Jim Loznicka who was fired unexpectedly back in May. Main anchor Greg Patterson writes in his blog that the new?slogan is?”much more than that.??LOCAL 15 means we will offer you a choice.? If you are interested in Local news..? breaking news, and a weather authority you can truly count on, you’ll find we will be your best choice for news” He goes on to write about ratings problems at the station below (see his full blog entry here).

Yes, there has been a lot of change at this television station over the last couple of years. And yes, sometimes change is difficult. Please bare in mind, the folks who now bring you the news were in no way responsible for what has happened in the past. In our business, if the ratings don’t rise, changes are made. We all know it when we decide to embark on this career. All we can ask of all of you is please watch and see what you think. If there are things you like.. great. Tell us.? ?If there are things you do not like.. please tell us. We did very extensive research in this community, and if you weren’t polled, chances are one of your neighbors was. ?We are making changes based on what this community tells us it wants. Please hang in there with us.? I can assure you that each and every day I will personally strive to bring you the best LOCAL newscast we can possible produce. It is my pledge, and my responsibility.
