WWSB GM to depart, the search is on…
Florida News Center has learned that VP/general manager, Jeff Whitson is leaving Sarasota’s WWSB-TV. Whitson informed station staff via an e-mail last week (read on at the bottom of the story), that he is leaving to become Vice-President of broadcasting at TelAmerica Media. He will stay on at the station until Aug 15th. Until a replacement is found, Ken Long will assume the role as acting VP/GM.
As Florida News Center reported at the time, Whitson joined WWSB in April of 2010. He came from Jacksonville duopoly WTEV/WAWS. Stay tuned to Florida News Center for future details.
ABC 7,
This is a very difficult announcement for me to make. I have accepted the position of Vice President of Broadcast for Cross MediaWorks’ TelAmerica Media; a company that I worked for previously. It is difficult because I have enjoyed working with you all, and I am so proud of the success we’ve been able to achieve over the past year and a quarter.
I will be in Sarasota as Vice President and General Manager until August 15th and will work to see that as smooth a transition as possible occurs. Ken Long will assume Acting General Manger responsibilities while the company searches for my replacement; and you are left in the hands of very capable Department Heads and Managers.
I am sad to be leaving, yet excited about the opportunities that lie head. I wish you all the best, we both have so much yet to achieve! Thank you for the honor of working together.
