Examiner.com reports that WPMI-TV has unveiled plans to produce a newscast for its sister station, WJTC. Both stations, owned by Deerfield Media (but ran by Sinclair Broadcast Group), share the same studios and now will share the same newscasts. WPMI will air its newscasts on WJTC between 6:30-7pm and from 9:00-9:30pm. The half-hour newscasts will air Monday through Friday, except for times when WJTC broadcasts local high school games. According to the WPMI Facebook page, the new newscasts are set to debut in the coming weeks.
The newscasts on WJTC, by WPMI come in response to “competitor” WEAR-TV’s recent addition of its newscasts on sister station WFGX-TV. As Florida News Center reported, WFGX began broadcasting WEAR newscasts several weeks ago.
On a site note…We “quoted” the word “competitor” as WEAR & WFGX are both owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group (ran out of studios in Pensacola). While WPMI/WJTC are technically owned by Deerfield Media, but operate under a local media agreement by…..you guessed it, Sinclair Broadcast Group (ran out of studios in Mobile). Yours truly here at Florida News Center is always curious how the toothless/worthless FCC and SEC allow for one company to essentially control four television stations in the same market.
