WTTA adds local news show…

WTTA-TV, the My Network TV affiliate for the Tampa market has added a new local news show entitled Great 38 News Now. The new half hour newscast, airing Sundays at 7pm, focuses on the goings on in the Tampa market and less on the traditional “news” format like other local stations.

The new broadcast is hosted by former Bay News 9 anchor Jenn Holloway and is recorded and produced locally at WTTA’s Tampa studios.

Sinclair Broadcast Group sister station WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach has also started producing daily news updates for the Tampa market. These updates air on WTTA as short segments between programming, three times daily, using anchor and meteorological talent from WPEC.

Viewers in the Tampa media market may remember that WTTA previously had its own news department, producing a 30 minute newscast at 10pm each day. That newscast was produced half locally and half out of Sinclair’s Baltimore headquarters. Unfortunately that newscast only lasted from 2003-2006, becoming a victim of cut backs at Sinclair. WFLA aired a version of it’s newscasts at 10pm on WTTA (News Channel 8 on My TV) in 2007, but discontinued that newscast in 2009.
