Radel, 37, was charged with misdemeanor possession of cocaine in D.C. Superior Court on Tuesday.
He faces a maximum of 180 days in jail, as well as a fine of up to $1,000. Radel has missed all four votes in the House this week.
Radel, in a statement released by his office, made no mention of resigning from the House. He said he struggles “with the disease of alcoholism, and this led to an extremely irresponsible choice. As the father of a young son and a husband to a loving wife, I need to get help so I can be a better man for both of them.”….Cont….
Florida TV history…
Radel was formerly an anchor at Fort Myer’s WINK-TV, leaving the station in 2010 to join a public policy organization. A few months later, he was signed to host a morning show on a local right leaning radio station. Radel returned to television (sort-of), as WXCW-TV simalcasted his morning radio show on that TV station. Radel bailed from his radio/TV gigs to run for for Congress in 2012. Radel was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2012.
Another interesting factoid…former WFTX-TV anchor Amy Weman is married to Trey Radel. She left her anchor gig at WFTX in 2012 to help Radel’s Congressional campaign.
