The urge to merge at BN9 & News 13….

Sources tell Florida News Center that changes are brewing at the Bright House Networks cable properties in the Tampa and Orlando markets. We have learned that News 13 Senior Director of News Tim Geraghty is out at the Orlando cable station.

As Florida News Center reported, Geraghty joined News 13 in 2012 as the station’s news director. In a move to further join the Tampa and Orlando outlets, Bay News 9 (BN9) Senior Director of News Mike Gautreau will assume responsibility of news management for both BN9 and News 13 from Geraghty. The current news directors Ally Berger (BN9) and Rudy Murrieta (News 13) will now report directly to Gautreau. Read the rest of this entry →

Burn, Baby, Burn…..2014!

For the first time in thirteen years, Tampa’s Bright House Cable news channel Bay News 9 and Orlando’s News 13 is breaking tradition and will not be airing the burning “Yule Log” LIVE on Christmas Eve. The tradition, started in 2002 had featured a burning fireplace, along with traditional Christmas music played (varying hours each year) from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. midnight.

Bright House Cable customers can still enjoy the scenes and music by going to OnDemand channel 999 in the Tampa and Orlando markets. For 2014, Bright House has expanded the different versions of the fireplace, up to eleven different options with and with-out music. The new highlight for this year, is a fireplace that is inspired by the Disney movie Frozen.

Tampa’s WTSP will air its verison of the burning “Yule Log” from 7-10:00 a.m. on Christmas morning. This is the second year that WTSP has aired its burning fire place, beginning last year for Christmas 2013. Watch the 2013 promo below:

Local anchor marches in Thanksgiving Day Parade….

Bay News 9 traffic reporter and anchor Chuck Henson made his national television debut this weekend, as part of the Madison Scouts Band of Brothers performance in the 2014 “Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade” on NBC.

Henson has been an active participant in marching band competitions and drum and rifle corps since his high school days. In August of 2014, Henson was appointed to the Board of Directors for for the Madison Drum and Bugle Corps Association. He has also been the  public address announcer for for the Bands of America/Music for All competitions for the past 26 years. In 2012 Henson was inducted into the Bands of America Hall of Fame. Paul Mueller to depart Bay News 9…

(from Mueller has announced he is joining the New Hampshire 1 News Network as an anchor.

NH1 News Network will debut sometime at the end of the summer on Concord/Derry, NH based WBIN-TV.

“I am so grateful and humbled to announce the next chapter of my life God has so graciously given me. I will be leaving Bay News 9 on August 21st and beginning a new opportunity as news anchor and reporter at New Hampshire One (NH1), a start-up news channel, based out of Concord, New Hampshire” Paul shared on his Facebook page. “This job truly brings me home as my family is only a 2-hour drive away and it doesn’t get any better than that. I thank each and everyone one of you for your continued support throughout the years. These last 3 years have certainly been a time of growth and learning and with this new opportunity, the growth will continue.”

Paul comes to NH1 News from Bay News 9 in Tampa, FL where he was a general assignment reporter based out of the stations Pinellas County newsroom….Cont….

Ybeth Bruzual calls out Gov. Rick Scott…

(from – Florida Governor Rick Scott (R) has spent $13.5 million on reelection ads for television, most of it in Central Florida.

But that doesn’t mean he wants to talk on television — and one Orlando news anchor is seriously over it. News 13′s Ybeth Bruzual spent nearly two minutes of air time calling out Scott for dodging her and her show, “Political Connections.”

Bruzual said Florida’s other major gubernatorial candidates including Charlie Crist (D) have appeared on “Political Connections,” but Scott’s campaign had repeatedly declined to commit to an appearance. Then, she said, his staff reached out and requested to appear on News 13′s Spanish language sister station InfoMás to discuss his Hispanic outreach program.

InfoMás initially agreed to the interview, but everything fell apart when producers informed Scott’s staff that Bruzual would conduct the interview and it would appear across all of the platforms owned by parent company Brighthouse Cable, including News 13 and a station in Tampa Bay….Cont….
