A new era for Central Florida News 13…

Orlando’s Central Florida News 13 began a new era today as the 24hr cable only station debuted a new logo, a new name, website (, news music, graphics package, and minor set changes on their Tuesday noon newscast. The station has been slowly phasing out the “Central Florida” part of its name over the past several years and has now fully adopted “News 13″ as its official moniker. The station is now using the slogan “News. Weather. Now.”

As Florida News Center learned nearly two weeks ago, the Bright House Networks cable-only station began to set into effect the even further merging of it’s Tampa and Orlando properties. The new “News 13″ is now a twin of its Tampa sister station, Bay News 9. Both stations now share the same music, slogan, similar logos, and set styling. Sources tell Florida News Center that the new graphics package introduced today on News 13 will eventually be adopted on Bay News 9 as well. Stay tuned for any further information.

Check out News 13′s new look below and a hybrid image where not all of the graphics are quite updated yet…

WFLA & Bright House make nice…

(from – Bright House Networks customers got a welcome New Year’s present Monday, as the company announced a last-minute deal with Media General to keep the Virginia-based media chain’s TV stations on its system, including Tampa NBC affiliate WFLA-Ch. 8.

But the deal, reportedly reached an hour before the midnight deadline on New Year’s Eve, follows the pattern of several recent conflicts between cable and satellite companies and broadcasters. (considering that Bright House has more than a million households in its system in the Tampa Bay area, NBC’s affiliate disappearing from the system would have hurt everyone from NBC Universal to viewers without access to other systems or a broadcast antenna….Cont….

Of course this grand standing is nothing new to television and is usually always resolved from signals are pulled. However, WFLA is not taking any chances and has been encouraging its viewers to switch to other providers, via segments in every newscast, crawls on the top and bottom of national simulcasts and via a special website ( Stay tuned….

Bright House drops Hearst (WESH, WKCF, WMOR)…

(edited from – Bright House Networks customers in the Tampa Bay area will have to look elsewhere for their daily programming, as a dispute has led owners Hearst Corp. to pull it Tampa channels, including WMOR-TV, its digital Spanish-language channel Estrella, digital movie channel this TV and Orlando channel’s WESH-TV and WKCF-TV, off the cable television system.

“It’s not a pleasant thing for our viewers to go through,” said Ken Lucas, president and general manager at WMOR, who estimates he spoke to or emailed dozens of viewers today. “But I don’t think it will hurt us long term.”
