Eryka Washington departs WKMG…

(edited from – WKMG is losing one of its high-profile investigative reporters.

Erkya Washington is leaving the Orlando Station on Friday and will become public information officer for Aramis Ayala, the newly elected state attorney for Orange and Osceola counties. First-time candidate Ayala defeated incumbent Jeff Ashton in August.

Washington was a familiar face before joining WKMG; she had been a reporter and weekend anchor at WESH-Channel 2 before departing the Orlando TV market in 2010….Cont….

Washington not renwed at WESH…

(from – This just in: Eryka Washington called to tell me about her depature from WESH-Ch. 2.

“They did not renew my contract. My contract was up awhile ago,” she said. “I wish the best for everybody. I have no ill will. I’m happy and looking forward to the next step. They’ve been very supportive.”

She said she wanted to thank viewers who watched her anchor on the weekends. She came here seven years ago with hopes of anchoring, and she got to do that job for more than four years.

“I will say I loved my time at WESH,” she said. “I met wonderful people. It’s been a blast. Unfortunately, it’s time for me to go.”

Washington announced her news via Twitter last night. “I wanted to let my Twitter followers know,” she said. “I was unable to say goodbye. I appreciate everyone’s support.”
