Eugene Ramirez to depart WFLA, join WFOR…

After just two years in Tampa, WFLA morning anchor Eugene Ramirez is leaving the station.

He is headed back down to his native Miami, as the new morning co-anchor at WFOR. His first day at that station will be on Monday, January 23.

He joined WFLA in January of 2015, coming from WSVN in Miami. Prior to that he worked at WSFL – Miami, News 13 – Orlando and CNN.

Josh Thomas departs WFLA…

(edited from TVSpy.com) – WFLA reporter Josh Thomas no longer works at the Tampa station.

Thomas, who went from being weekend anchor to reporter last year, has been gone from the station for a couple of weeks. There’s no word why he left or where he’s going.

His move off the anchor desk, as reported by Florida News Center, along with morning anchor Rod Carter being replaced by Eugene Ramirez, was questioned by the Tampa Association of Black Journalists Read the rest of this entry →

WFLA anchor meets relatives from his Cuban past…

WFLA morning anchor Gene (Eugene) Ramirez had a chance to meet up with relatives that remain in Cuba, during the station’s May sweeps piece entitled Cuba: Behind The Curtain.

More than 50 years ago, Ramirez’s family fled to South Florida before the Castro regime took control of the island nation. However, not all of his family were able to leave the island. On the trip, Ramirez was able to meet up with with several of his cousins, who still live in the home that his mother was once played in as a child. Read the rest of this entry →

WFLA does the anchor shuffle…

WFLA has announced that Eugene “Gene” Ramirez (right #1) will be the new weekday morning co-anchor at the Tampa station. He will co-anchor the newscasts from 4:30 to 7 a.m. with co-anchor Gayle Guyardo. He officially starts at the station January 26th.

Sources tell Florida News Center that Ramirez will be filling the chair that is currently occupied by Rod Carter (right #2) . Carter will be moving to the weekend shift, to anchor the evening/night newscasts. Current weekend anchor Josh Thomas (right #3) is moving to the weekday shift and will serve as general assignment reporter. Read the rest of this entry →
