WCJB is SOLD….

(edited from Gainesville.com) – Diversified Communications, the parent company of WCJB-TV20, announced Thursday that it’s selling the station to broadcast giant Gray Television Inc.

WCJB and WABI-TV, a family-owned station in Bangor, Maine, are being bought for $85 million, and the sale is expected to be final in eight to 12 weeks, pending approval by the Federal Communications Commission.

Gray owns or operates 100 TV stations across 54 TV markets, including Florida stations WCTV – Tallahassee and WJHG/WECP – Panama City. Read the rest of this entry →

Gray renews with CBS/FOX through 2019…

(edited from TVNewsCheck.com) – It looks like Tallahassee’s WCTV and Dothan, AL’s WTVY (often viewable in the Panama City market) will remain CBS affiliates for the next five years.

Gray Television today made two announcements of network affiliation renewals, first with CBS and later with Fox.

This morning it announced a comprehensive, long-term agreement that renews all 26 of Gray’s CBS station affiliation agreements in 22 markets.

The agreement includes early renewals for 26 Gray-owned CBS affiliates: WVLT Knoxville, Tenn.; WKYT-WYMT Lexington, Ky.; KWTX-KBTX Waco, Texas; KKTV Colorado Springs, Colo.; KOLN-KGIN Lincoln, Neb.; WCTV Tallahassee, Fla.;  WRDW Augusta,  Ga.; KVLY  Fargo, N.D..;  WIBW Topeka, Kan.; WSAW Wausau, Wis.; WIFR Rockford, Ill.; KNOE Monroe, La.; WSWG Albany, Ga.; WECP Panama City, Fla.; KXII Sherman, Texas; WTVY Dothan, Ala.; WSVF Harrisonburg, Va.; KALB Alexandria, La.; WCAV Charlottesville, Va.; WIYE Parkersburg, W.Va.; KGWN-KSTF Cheyenne, Wyo.; and KNPL North Platte, Neb….Cont….

WMBB sold to Nexstar Broadcasting…

(from TVSpy.com) – Nexstar Broadcasting and Mission Broadcasting have announced a definitive agreement to acquire six television stations for $37.5 million.

In the deal, Nexstar will pay $33.5 million to buy WMBB (ABC) in Panama City, FL, and KREX (CBS), KREG (CBS), KREY (CBS) and KGJT (MyNetworkTV) in Grand Junction, CO, from Gray Television. Mission will pay $4 million for KFQX in Grand Junction, CO, from Excalibur Broadcasting. KREG and KREY are satellite stations of KREX.

Perry A. Sook, chairman, president and CEO of Nexstar Broadcasting Group, Inc., said in a statement. “The agreements to acquire stations in Grand Junction and Panama City mark our entrée into these markets and upon completing all announced transactions, we will own or provide services to multiple stations in 37 of the 56 markets where we will operate.”….Cont….

Heather Peeples named GM at WCTV…

(from Gray TV Press Release) – Heather Peeples is now Vice President and General Manager of CBS affiliate WCTV in Tallahassee, Florida.  Heather has been the station’s General Sales Manager since 2007.  She started in the broadcast industry in 1989 at WTLH in Tallahassee.  Heather spent six years as Account Executive with the Quad Cities Radio Group in Davenport, Iowa, followed in 1997 by various sales and promotional positions at WFLI-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Heather returned to Tallahassee in 1999 first as an Account Executive, then Local Sales Manager, and finally General Sales Manager.

WECP goes on the air next week, WTVY dumped…

(from NewsHerald.com) – Bay County’s first CBS affiliate since the 1960s will be “flipping the switch” Monday, company officials said.

The new station, WECP, will be available over the air — that is, using rabbit ears — on channel 18 at mid-morning. Viewers will need to rescan their TVs to pick up the signal, said Curt Molander, general manager for WJHG, the sister station of WECP and WTVY in Dothan, Ala., which has served as the Panama City market’s CBS affiliate since the early 1960s.

The WECP studios will be located on Front Beach Road with WJHG. Both stations, along with WTVY, are owned by Atlanta-based Gray Television.

WECP’s broadcast towers will be located in Youngstown, so the addition will not affect viewers’ reception of CBS, Molander said. CBS is the “network of record” for Southeastern Conference football and will carry March Madness and the Super Bowl….Cont….
