NTSB report released in WPEC copter crash…

(from MiamiHerald.com)Federal officials say a loose nut caused a traffic helicopter leased by West Palm Beach television station WPEC to lose power and land on its belly last fall. The National Transportation Safety Board released a report on the crash Thursday. The two people on board during the Nov. 11 hard landing – the pilot and WPEC’s traffic reporter – received minor injuries. The chopper landed on its belly just east of I-95 after the pilot saw a warning light. The landing gear was damaged and the tail was split in half, but the main section of the helicopter remained intact. The NTSB reports the probable cause of the crash was a loss of engine power due to an undertorqued air line fitting to the fuel control.
