Jessica Sanchez is now “cancer free”…

After nearly a year of battling Stage 4 Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, Jessica Sanchez announced the she is now cancer free. The WKMG traffic reporter was diagnosed in March of 2013 and has spent eight months off the air for chemotherapy, blood transfusions and operations. The station announced that she will be returning to work next week, although working off the air.

Watch the video below as WKMG-TV traffic reporter Jessica Sanchez discusses the benefits of the “Art Cart” program at Orlando’s M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. Sanchez was one of the first patients to use the program during her treatment for non-Hodgkin lymphoma over the past year. She has been off the air at WKMG since earlier this year and is expected to return back to work in early 2014. Video below…

(from OrlandoSentinel.com) – Traffic reporter Jessica Sanchez, who is battling cancer, will share shaving her head on WKMG-Channel 6′s morning news this Monday.

On March 16, the station announced that Sanchez has non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.

“She’s in good spirits and she’s staying positive,” WKMG news director Steve Hyvonen said Friday. “She’s going through an ordeal that anyone who has been through chemotherapy knows. Her hair is falling out.”

So she plans to shave her head Saturday, and WKMG will share the update on the morning news, which usually features Sanchez….Cont….

WKMG reporter diagnosed with cancer…

(edited from OrlandoSentinel.com) – Traffic reporter Jessica Sanchez has non-Hodgkin lymphoma, WKMG-Channel 6 announced Saturday night.

“In the nine years I’ve been in Central Florida, the community and the people have become my home, my family, and I’m feeling that more than ever,” Sanchez said. “The thoughts, prayers and support I have received so far have been amazing!  While this is tough news to take, I plan to turn it into an experience from which I can learn, grow and share.”

“WKMG’s  thoughts and prayers are focused on Jessica’s health and recovery,” said Skip Valet, the station’s general manager….Cont….

Sanchez to traffic at WKMG…

(from OrlandoSentinel.com) - Jessica Sanchez will become the new traffic reporter at WKMG on Tuesday. She replaces Kim Sanders, whose last day at the station will be Friday. Why move Sanchez to traffic reporter? “She’s a terrific storyteller, a compelling performer and a very good reporter, which is most important to me,” WKMG General Manager Skip Valet said. “She has a lot of fans.
