Joy Purdy to WJXT…

(from – Six months after turning down an offer at First Coast News to move to the anchor spot for its 11 p.m. newscast, Joy Purdy is returning to Jacksonville’s airwaves.

WJXT TV-4 announced in a news release Friday that Purdy will join the station this month to anchor its evening newscasts at 5:30, 6:30 and 11 with longtime anchor Rob Sweeting. (Jennifer Waugh previously worked alongside Sweeting before moving to mornings in June.)

“We’ve been looking for just the right person to join Mary Baer, Tom Wills and Rob Sweeting in the evenings,” said Bob Ellis, the station’s vice president and general manager, in the news release.

For Purdy, it’s her second stint at the independent Post-Newsweek station. She worked as a weekend anchor and reporter for five years, from 1995 to 2000, before heading to Miami’s WFOR TV-4….Cont….

Joy Purdy is leaving WTLV/WJXX…

(from – First Coast News (WTLV/WJXX) on Thursday announced that after 6 years at FCN, Joy Purdy is leaving the anchor desk to devote more time to her husband, step-daughter and two young daughters.

“I have been trying to figure out what to do at a crossroads in my life. I was recently offered the main anchor spot here at FCN, the 11 p.m. newscast. So exciting! However, after much prayer, and countless family discussions … I’ve instead decided to take a break from work to spend time with my family,” says Purdy.

Purdy returned to Jacksonville from Miami in September of 2007 to co-anchor First Coast News at 7 p.m. Two years later, she was promoted to co-anchor of Good Morning Jacksonville weekday mornings….Cont….

Anchor goes into labor after newscast…

Sources tell Florida News Center that WTLV/WJXX morning/noon anchor Joy Purdy went into labor yesterday, shortly after the noon newscasts. She gave birth that afternoon at a local hospital. Read the story below from WTLV/WJXX.

(from – “Good Morning Jacksonville” anchor Joy Purdy is a mom. Alexandra Isabelle, or Baby Alex as Joy called her in a note to the GMJ staff, arrived Tuesday at 5:12 p.m. Alexandra weighed in at 4 lbs., 12 oz., and is 16 1/2 inches long. Joy said she finally got some sleep around 4 a.m. when Alex took a nap. Joy’s husband took advantage of the quiet time too, getting some sleep on the couch. Mom, baby and her husband are all doing fine.
