Rob Munoz to leave WFTS….

After just one year in Tampa, WFTS-TV reporter Rob Munoz is leaving Florida for the West coast. Munoz is headed to KIRO-TV in Seattle.

He writes this morning on his Twitter page: My last morning at WFTS with these folks, been fun!! (referring to the morning crew of Dan Shaffer, Deiah Riley, Meredyth Censullo, Wayne Shattuck, and Laura Harris).

Munoz joined WFTS in Janurary of 2013 from KSNV-TV in Las Vegas.

Brian Monahan is headed to Seattle…

(from Bob Jordan may be gone, but he still has pull. The former WFTV-Channel 9 news director, who is now at KIRO in Seattle, has lured meteorologist Brian Monahan to join him there.

“I’ve loved living in Florida the last almost seven years (five in Fort Myers, two in Orlando) — it’s truly become home,” said Monahan, 30. “The thought of leaving Orlando and Florida was a tough one initially, but once I visited Seattle back in September, I fell in love with the area.”

So, who replaces Bob Jordan?

Our friends at report that WFTV managing editor Matt Parcell (right #1) is a “lock” to replace Bob Jordan (right #2) as news director at the Orlando station. Jordan brought Parcell to WFTV in 2006 from Columbus, OH’s WBNS-TV.

Bob Jordan (officially) announced earlier this week that he is leaving WFTV to join its sister station, KIRO-TV in Seattle. His last day will be Aug 17.

Rowe raves about her new co-anchor…

(from – WKMG-Channel 6 anchor Lauren Rowe does a pretty efficient promotional job for her new co-anchor, Gaard Swanson. He debuts at 6 and 11 p.m. Thursday on the CBS affiliate.

“He’s an entrepreneur, he’s a business owner, he’s a father of four, he’s a journalist,” Rowe said. “I had no question whatsoever whether he had the chops to do this job,”

She was impressed by his skills when they read together during his audition. I’ve done a separate interview with Swanson, but Rowe was there during the chat.

“It was very exciting to sit next to someone I found fascinating personally,” she said. “Gaard’s depth was immediately apparent. It won’t take long for people to know that this guy has leadership, skills, intelligence. We can’t have enough leaders in that newsroom. We all need to innovate.”

Swanson’s diverse background includes renovating homes, owning a coffee business and hosting an HGTV show, “Generation Renovation.” A particular passion of Swanson’s is setting up a project — – to help Native Americans….Cont….

Swanson to the big chair at WKMG…

(from Swanson, a Seattle television veteran who has worked for HGTV, will become the primary male anchor at WKMG-Channel 6, the station announced this morning.

Swanson’s first day on the air at the CBS affiliate will be Thursday, Feb. 3, which is the first day of the February ratings period. He will co-anchor with Lauren Rowe at 6 and 11 p.m.

Swanson comes to WKMG from KIRO, the CBS affiliate in Seattle. He works as a free-lance host there. Before that, he was sports director at KIRO for eight years.

WKMG highlighted that Swanson, while at KIRO, had hosted other programs, including HGTV’s “Generation Renovation” and several HGTV specials.

“He’s very comfortable on camera,” WKMG General Manager Skip Valet said. “You’ll see that almost immediately. He’s very versatile.”

Will Swanson continue to do HGTV programs? “He may do some of that as long as it doesn’t impact his job here,” Valet said. “We’ll keep him pretty busy.”….Cont….
