“The Now” filters down to WFTS…

Tampa’s WFTS has announced that it will begin airing a 4p.m. newscast. However, this is not just any newscast. This will be a local version of The Now, a program that premiered on Scrips sister stations KMGH-TV in Denver and KSHB-TV in Kansas City. The Now Tampa Bay will begin on September 8.

Scrips describes The Now, which originally premiered in July of this year, as a “fast-moving locally produced news program at 4 p.m.” that “covers news that is trending on social media and invites the audience to join the conversation across traditional and digital media platforms.”

Since the debut of The Now in July, there had been talk that Scrips would take the show to all of its owned television stations. However, the move to WFTS in September comes just as that station loses syndicated The Ellen DeGeneres Show to market rival WFLA. This move left the 4pm time slot wide open.

The Now Tampa Bay will be hosted by Laura A. Harris (right), with cut-ins for weather and other information as needed by other WFTS personalities.
