GTN is dead, CBS 4 rules…

The station group formerly known as Gainesville Television News (GTN) is no more. The station group of WGFL (CBS), WNBW (NBC), WYME (MeTV) and digital sub-channel MyTV 11, use to all function and air newscasts under the GTN brand until today.

The GTN brand has been replaced with the new “CBS 4″ brand, which includes a new logo, branding and graphics package for that station. Simulcasted newscasts under the new “CBS 4″ will continue air on sister station WNBW, but with no mention of the NBC station. The station runs week day newscasts at 6 & 11 p.m.

Wheel-chair bound WPEC employee sues station…

(edited from – WPEC managers have made the life of a longtime employee confined to a motorized wheelchair miserable after they switched the popular video editor’s schedule then refused to accommodate his extreme handicap, according to a new lawsuit filed in Palm Beach County circuit court.

The shift change has made Michael Caruso‘s day-to-day routine much harder and caused his condition to worsen.

Media General, LIN, Hearst, Sinclair, Meredith bounce around stations…

(from – Media General Inc. and LIN Media today agreed to sell or swap television stations in five markets to comply with FCC ownership rules affecting the merger they announced on March 21. Media General also announced today that in light of the loss of CBS affiliation of LIN’s WISH Indianapolis, it was lowering the per-share price of the deal from $27.82 to $25.97.

Regulatory authorities are requiring the divestiture of stations in the following markets: Birmingham, Ala.; Providence, R.I.-New Bedford, Mass.; Mobile, Ala.-Pensacola, Fla.; Green Bay-Appleton, Wis.; and Savannah, Ga. The companies said they believe that no other market divestitures will be required….Cont…

According to, in Florida the changes go as follows…

Media General will acquire WTTA-TV in the Tampa/St. Petersburg market. Of course Media General already owns WFLA-TV in that Tampa, it’s second largest. We here at Florida News Center predict that WTTA will move to WFLA’s downtown Tampa studios and once again share newscasts.

Meredith Corp will take WALA-TV away from LIN TV, in the Mobile-Pensacola market for a mere $86 million.

WTTA adds local news show…

WTTA-TV, the My Network TV affiliate for the Tampa market has added a new local news show entitled Great 38 News Now. The new half hour newscast, airing Sundays at 7pm, focuses on the goings on in the Tampa market and less on the traditional “news” format like other local stations.

The new broadcast is hosted by former Bay News 9 anchor Jenn Holloway and is recorded and produced locally at WTTA’s Tampa studios.

Sinclair Broadcast Group sister station WPEC-TV in West Palm Beach has also started producing daily news updates for the Tampa market. These updates air on WTTA as short segments between programming, three times daily, using anchor and meteorological talent from WPEC.

WEAR to produce new newscasts for WFGX…

WEAR-TV announced that it will begin producing a thirty minute newscast for its sister station WFGX-TV. The new newscast, titled and logo’ed under the WEAR brand, will be thirty minutes long, to air week nights at 9:00pm. WFGX will begin airing “Channel 3 News at 9″ on August 12th.

WEAR and WFGX are both owned by Sinclair Broadcast Group and share the same Pensacola studios. Stay tuned for any further details.
