A change in the Weather…

Our friends at NewsBlues.com report that the weather is changing at WTSP. Weekday morning meteorologist Chris Suchan (right #1) has been moved to the the weekends, while weekend meteorologist Bobby Deskins (right #2) has taken over the weekday morning shift. Suchan joined WTSP in August of 2008. Deskins joined WTSP in January 2009. Stay tuned for further updates.

And across the state…

(from OrlandoSentinel.com) - There’s a change in the weathercasting at WKMG-Ch. 6. The CBS affiliate has moved meteorologist Troy Bridges (right #1) to weekday mornings as well as noon. Meteorologist Eric Wilson, (right #2) who had been delivering the weather in those time slots, is still working for the station, WKMG General Manager Skip Valet said today. “We’re deciding what his new assignment will be,” Valet said. The changes are effective immediately, and Valet said he had no further comment.

Sorrells is back, baby…

(from OrlandoSentinel.com) – WKMG-Channel 6 chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells has returned to the 11 p.m. newscast, starting this week. In October, the station had installed meteorologist Troy Bridges at 11 p.m. and reduced Sorrells’ workload. What does the change back to Sorrells mean? “Clearly he’s very valuable to the station,” WKMG General Manager Skip Valet said. “He’s one of the building blocks for the future.” The October change had raised concerns about Sorrells’ future at the CBS affiliate. Sorrells’ fans can stop worrying. “The ratings are improving. It’s a perfect time for him to return to 11,” Valet said. Sorrells will continue to do the hour-long 6 p.m. news with Bridges’ assistance.

Changes in the weather at WKMG…

(from OrlandoSentinel.com) -?Fans of WKMG’s chief meteorologist Tom Sorrells (right #1) will have to catch him at 6 p.m. The station has installed meteorologist Troy Bridges (right #2) at 11 p.m. “We have a team of great meteorologists at WKMG,” station General Manager Skip Valet said. “I want to expose that team to as many viewers as possible, giving them a chance to know Troy.” Bridges should be helped by appearing on a newscast that follows popular CBS dramas at 10 p.m. and precedes the headline-making “Late Show With David Letterman.” Valet compared the change to one the CBS affiliate recently made in moving its anchorwomen: Lauren Rowe is now at 11, Laura Diaz is in the morning, and Jacqueline London is on the hour-long 6 p.m. news….Cont….

WKMG GM says anchor “experiment” has worked…

(from OrlandoSentinel.com) – WKMG’s committed to a new strategy to pull out of a difficult period in a tough economy. Orlando?s CBS affiliate is banking on promoting a rearranged team ? especially its personalities. General Manager Skip Valet said a shift in anchorwomen, which started last month as an experiment, already has paid off. ?We?re moving out of the test phase,? Valet said. ?We?re getting very good results. I think the broadcasts are certainly improving. The ratings are definitely improving. We?re going to continue the course.? Lauren Rowe (pictured) will remain at 11 p.m. while Laura Diaz takes her slot in early morning. Jacqueline London continues at 6 p.m. In August, the station?s news shows ran third ? behind WFTV-Channel 9 and WESH-Channel 2 ? at 6 a.m., 6 and 11 p.m. in the 25-to-54 age group that?s most important to advertisers. But WKMG trumpets improvement in that age group, especially women…..Cont……
