Sister stations help Orlando stations with coverage…

(edited from TVSpy.com) – Continuing coverage of the terrorist attack in Orlando has left local stations spread thin. Sister stations from around the country have been helping with the coverage.

Sources tell Florida News Center that staffs from cable outlet Bay News 9 in Tampa have been sent to Orlando to assist its sister News 13 with coverage. The stations already share resources and some staff.

Cox Media Group-owned WFTV: WJAX-WFOX in Jacksonville, WSB in Atlanta, WFXT in Boston and WHIO in Dayton and its Washington, D.C. bureau sent reporters, photographers and producers to help WFTV. Read the rest of this entry →

Orlando stations rush to cover terrorist attack…

(from TVSpy.com) – Orlando affiliates WFTV (ABC), WKMG (CBS), WESH (NBC) and WOFL (Fox) rushed crews to the scene of the Pulse nightclub and Orlando Regional Medical Center gathering some of the first images and eyewitness accounts of what has become the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

WFTV, WKMG and WESH began continuing coverage around 5 a.m. while WOFL began at 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

At least 50 people are dead and another 53 wounded when a gunman identified entered the club with an assault weapon and a handgun and opened fire. Read the rest of this entry →

Sweeping up May 2016 in Orlando…

(edited from OrlandoSentinel.com) – In the May TV ratings for Orlando, WFTV was the big winner and WKMG was the main gainer.

Retiring WFTV anchor Bob Opsahl, whose last newscast was 6 p.m. Wednesday, went out a ratings winner. He and Martha Sugalski were the leaders from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in total viewers as well as the 25-to-54 age group for the month.

In news ratings, 25-to-54 is the most important for advertisers. At 6 p.m., WFTV averaged 19,496 viewers in the age group. WKMG drew 13,978, WESH pulled in 13,015 and WOFL attracted 5,333. (The Sentinel has a content-sharing agreement with WOFL.) Read the rest of this entry →

John Soapes named GM at WESH/WKCF…

Soapes comes to the Hearst sister station WYFF in Greenville, S.C.

Before working at WYFF, he was the general sales manager at WKCF from 2001 until 2011. He started his career as an account executive at WTAT in Charleston, S.C….Cont….
