Raycom closes on WWSB/WTXL…

(edited from TVNewsCheck.com) – Raycom Media’s $68.5 million purchase of Sarasota’s WWSB and Tallahassee’s WTXL from Calkins Media Group, closed this week.

“Raycom Media’s Florida portfolio is significantly enhanced by our expansion into the vibrant Suncoast communities and the important State Capital news center of Tallahassee,” said Don Richards, Raycom Media Group VVP.

The acquisition expands Raycom Media’s reach and presence in Florida. It also owns Fox affiliates WFLX in West Palm Beach and WPGX in Panama City…..Cont….

Nicole Hogensen named N/D at WPTV/WFLX…

(edited from TVSpy.com) – Nicole Hogensen has been promoted to news director for the West Palm Beach, Fla., NBC and Fox affiliate WPTV–WFLX.

She started at the station as managing editor in 2010 and was promoted to assistant news director last year.

Hogensen worked at WTVR in Richmond, Va., before coming to WPTV….Cont….

WPTV claims November ’15 sweeps win…

(from TVNewsCheck.com) – WPTV, the Scripps NBC affiliate in West Palm Beach, Fla., says it was No. 1 in households in all morning and evening newscasts during November.

But it was particularly tight at 11 p.m., according to Christine Baron, WPTV’s creative services director.

WPTV swaps its morning team, adds more news…

GossipExtra.com reports that changes at happening at WPTV/WFLX.

In a memo to the staff of WPTV this morning, station officials announced that longtime morning anchors Roxanne Stein and John Favole (right), are being pulled off the show that’s been theirs for 20 years. They are being re-assigned to the morning newscast on their low rated sister station, WFLX. The duo will then re-join WPTV for a brand-new, one-hour broadcast set to start airing on at 11 a.m.

Station manager Lloyd Bucher commented that “John and Roxanne have done a tremendous job helping us to retain the #1 spot in the market and I am confident that this duo will build a strong 11 a.m. newscast too.” Read the rest of this entry →
