Craig Wolf finds work in Public Television…

(from – Plans for a new public television documentary series featuring Southwest Florida and hosted by former local anchorman Craig Wolf are coming into focus.

Collier County’s Tourist Development Council on Monday unanimously approved chipping in $5,000 from its bed tax-fueled marketing fund toward WGCU-TV’s plan to produce a short pilot program with the working title, “Florida Explorer.”

Lee County’s Tourist Development Council has not been approached for funds as yet. However, county tourism chief Tamara Pigott said she suggested WGCU officials contact the Southwest Florida Community Foundation for possible financial assistance with the pilot production….Cont….

Public stations team up in the name of journalism…

(from – Tampa public broadcasters, WEDU-Ch. 3, WMNF-Fm and WUSF-Ch. 16/WUSF-FM will be part of a nationwide $10.5-million initiative to improve local journalism across the country.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting this morning announced it will create seven Local Journalism Centers across the country, combining resources from local stations and CPB funds for a two-year project to pioneer new techniques on news gathering and distributing content.

The Tampa stations are part of Central Florida group which includes WGCU in Ft. Myers, WMFE in Orlando and WUFT in Gainesville. This group will focus on healthcare issues in Florida, assembling five reporters, an executive editor, a senior multimedia manager and a “community engagement specialist” to create stories sparking community discussion….Cont….
