Mark Collins back to WJXT…

(edited from WJXT Press Release) – Meteorologist Mark Collins returns to WJXT, in time for Hurricane Hermine coverage.  He was a fill-in meteorologist and a weather producer at WJXT from 2010-2011 and across town at the duopoly of WTLV/WJXX before that.

He left WJXT in 2011 to anchor weekend weather at WTSP in Tampa.  Recently he worked at the Florida Institute of Oceanography aboard research vessels studying Florida’s marine ecosystems. Read the rest of this entry →

Destiny McKeiver to WJXT…

(edited from McKeiver is joining Jacknsonville’s WJXT. She starts in September, as the station’s new multimedia journalist.

She joins WJXT after a two year stint at KYTX-TV in Tyler, TX. She worked at KTVO-TV in Kirksville, MO before that.

WCWJ to be sold, yet another duopoly for JAX…

In a press release from Graham Holdings Company, the media company has reached an agreement with Nexstar Broadcasting Group and Media General to acquire Jacksonville CW affiliate, WCWJ and WSLS in Roanoke, VA.

So how does this impact the Jacksonville market? Independent WJXT is currently owned by Graham Holdings. The acquisition of WCWJ by Graham will create the third duopoly i that market (WTLV/WJXX by TEGNA and WJAX/WFOX by Cox Media). Look for WJXT to expand its news footprint in the market, with the newly acquired signal and viewers from WCWJ. Read the rest of this entry →

WJXT analyzes Challenger disaster in documentary…

(edited from WJXT Press Release) – January 28, 1986, was a day that shook America to its core.  WJXT marks the 30th anniversary of the disaster with Challenger:  A Rush to Launch airing Tuesday, January 26 at 8pm on WJXT Channel 4 and a special section on its website.  The hour long documentary takes an investigative look into what brought the shuttle down through the voices of those directly affected by the tragedy then and now.

WJXT spent months researching and traveling across the country to dig deeper into little known revelations from that historic day.  In this special program, viewers will hear the minute-by-minute developments the night prior to launch where engineers warned of a potential disaster.  Read the rest of this entry →
