Erick Weber departs WOFL after just a month…

(edited from OrlandoSentinel.com) – Morning anchor Erick Weber’s last day on the air at WOFL was July 22. His departure comes just under a month after signing on with the Orlando station.

His disappearance left viewers asking what had happened to the new anchor. The Fox-owned station confirmed his departure Wednesday (today) after his exit had been negotiated.

In a statement, Weber said: “Choosing to leave Fox 35 is an incredibly difficult decision to make. While Fox provided an outstanding opportunity for me, the stress of living 2,500 miles away from my family, who were unable to join me, was far more impactful on me and my work than I anticipated….Cont….

More news on WOFL…

(from TVSpy.com) – Orlando’s WOFL is revamping its 6 p.m. newscast and calling it NewsEdge@6PM.

Starting Monday, July 11 Stephen Hauck will anchor the hour long “fast-paced newscast informing viewers on the evening’s developing and trending stories, with a discussion of the major stories of the day.”

After the expansion, WOFL will produce 55.5 hours of local news each week….Cont….

John Brown departs, Erick Webber joins WOFL…

(edited from OrlandoSentinel.com) – With a group hug, the staff at Orlando’s WOFL on Friday said farewell to morning anchor John Brown (right #1) after five years. He will return to St. Louis after a death in the family and go back to his former station, he told viewers.

Erick Weber (right #2), a former morning anchor at Orlando’s WKMG, will replace John Brown on the morning shift at WOFL. He starts next Wednesday.

Most recently, Weber was morning anchor for Charlotte, NC’s WJZY-TV. Before that, he was morning news anchor for NECN/NBC in Boston. Read the rest of this entry →

Sister stations help Orlando stations with coverage…

(edited from TVSpy.com) – Continuing coverage of the terrorist attack in Orlando has left local stations spread thin. Sister stations from around the country have been helping with the coverage.

Sources tell Florida News Center that staffs from cable outlet Bay News 9 in Tampa have been sent to Orlando to assist its sister News 13 with coverage. The stations already share resources and some staff.

Cox Media Group-owned WFTV: WJAX-WFOX in Jacksonville, WSB in Atlanta, WFXT in Boston and WHIO in Dayton and its Washington, D.C. bureau sent reporters, photographers and producers to help WFTV. Read the rest of this entry →

Orlando stations rush to cover terrorist attack…

(from TVSpy.com) – Orlando affiliates WFTV (ABC), WKMG (CBS), WESH (NBC) and WOFL (Fox) rushed crews to the scene of the Pulse nightclub and Orlando Regional Medical Center gathering some of the first images and eyewitness accounts of what has become the deadliest mass shooting in U.S. history.

WFTV, WKMG and WESH began continuing coverage around 5 a.m. while WOFL began at 6 a.m. Sunday morning.

At least 50 people are dead and another 53 wounded when a gunman identified entered the club with an assault weapon and a handgun and opened fire. Read the rest of this entry →
