Burn, baby, burn – 2016 – WTSP to air Yule Log…

For the fourth year in a row, Tampa’s WTSP will air its verison of the burning “Yule Log.” This year it air from 6:30-9:30a.m. on Christmas morning.

WTSP started airing the Yule Log in 2013, competing with similar offerings from 24hr cable channel Bay News 9 (and it’s sister station in Orlando, News 13). However, while 2013 was the first year for WTSP, it became the last year for BN9/News 13. After thirteen years (2001-2013) the cable channels put the fire out and killed the tradition for 2014.

The TV Yule Log tradition was started by New York station WPIX-TV, 50 years ago in 1966! That live stream can be found here.

We here at Florida News Center are happy to see the log still burns at WTSP – Merry Christmas to you all.

Burn, Baby, Burn…..2014!

For the first time in thirteen years, Tampa’s Bright House Cable news channel Bay News 9 and Orlando’s News 13 is breaking tradition and will not be airing the burning “Yule Log” LIVE on Christmas Eve. The tradition, started in 2002 had featured a burning fireplace, along with traditional Christmas music played (varying hours each year) from 7:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. midnight.

Bright House Cable customers can still enjoy the scenes and music by going to OnDemand channel 999 in the Tampa and Orlando markets. For 2014, Bright House has expanded the different versions of the fireplace, up to eleven different options with and with-out music. The new highlight for this year, is a fireplace that is inspired by the Disney movie Frozen.

Tampa’s WTSP will air its verison of the burning “Yule Log” from 7-10:00 a.m. on Christmas morning. This is the second year that WTSP has aired its burning fire place, beginning last year for Christmas 2013. Watch the 2013 promo below:
